Dr. Ramzan M. Zakir is native from New Jersey and attended Rutgers University. He completed both his internship and residency at UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School. He won the Department of Medicine Research award and several other recognitions for his commitment to advance the field of medicine. He spent an additional year as Chief Medical Resident in the UMDNJ program at Hackensack University Hospital where he taught and had various administrative duties. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at UMDNJ- New Jersey Medical School and was Chief Fellow the final year. He completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center and did advanced training in carotid stenting at Lenox Hill Hospital

Dr. Ramzan M. Zakir is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he is involved in research and fellow training. From 2011 to 2016 he was the Director of Transradial Catheterization where he successfully performed over a thousand procedures and taught other cardiologists on how to safely perform the procedure through the wrist. His area of expertise is complex coronary interventions, chronic total occlusion, carotid artery stenting, endovascular interventions for patients with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease (PAD), and venous ablations for venous insufficiency.

Dr. Zakir was also the Director of the Peripheral Vascular Program at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. He is the principal investigator of several clinical trials to enhance the management of patients with PAD.

Dr. Zakir is currently the Director of High Risk PCI and Research at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Dr. Zakir is an affiliate of several organizations; he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a fellow of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, and a member of the Police Defense Foundation as well as Health Forces for Police.

An illustrious scholar, Dr. Zakir is known for his distinct contributions to prominent medical publications. He is invited faculty at several international conferences and lectures throughout the country.

When not working, Dr. Zakir enjoys playing basketball, tennis and football. He also enjoys rooting for the New York Knicks, Yankees and Jets.
